The EU-US Privacy Shield was a legal framework established in 2016 to facilitate the transfer of personal data between the European Union and the United States. It aimed to provide companies on both sides of the Atlantic with a mechanism to comply with data protection requirements when transferring personal data from the EU to the US in support of transatlantic commerce. However, the EU-US Privacy Shield was invalidated by the Court of Justice of the European Union in 2020, citing concerns over the lack of adequate safeguards for personal data transferred to the US.
